Podcast

It's unbelieveable that something with no expense attached to it can reach so many viewers / listeners. I am in the process of preparing to launch a daily podcast. It's amazing how many adults have returned back to the good old days of relying on their listening skills. check back later for more information.

Avatar - Not The Movie

My filmmaking class had an interesting experience with second life this week. We had a scheduled virtual class session in second life. Needless to say when working in unfamiliar territory you can never prepare for the obstacles we were faced with - some things can only be learned by doing. Some of the issues we encountered were computers crashing, slow moving avatars, classmates (myself included) became a little frustrated with the idea of having to possibly create a movie in second life -- this interfered with our ability to focus. The next day Ken came to the rescue and realized the countless number of hours needed to achieve that goal were probably impossible to have a successful project. Ken re-grouped and re-assigned another assignment. A word of advice---If anyone wishes to sample using second life -- be aware that you must commit several hours in becoming familiar with the tools before you can enjoy them and use them successfully. Have fun!

No Pain No Gain!

Today I was reminded why I hate going to the dentist. Picture this ...while sitting in the nice recliner you are first asked by the attendant - Are you comfortable???? How can she ask if I'm comfortable? I'm about to have my brains pulled out through a hole which has mysteriously appeared in my tooth...Mind you all I can think about are the nice chewy tropical swedish fish I love to enjoy, or the soft chewy taffy I love to exercise my teeth on, or the nice dark chocolate, or the soft now and laters...oh my, oh my, oh my, I lost control for a minute--ok where was I --oh yes. Am I comfortable? well needless to say it would help a great bit if Doctors gave out ear plugs prior to clipping on those PAPER droll bibbs to your blouse--wait a minute whats that noise? I don't remember seeing any hard hats around or any "careful under construction" signs any where in sight. Suddenly I see a miniature drill coming directly towards my mouth.... YIKES! do I yell and look like a fool or do I play tough girl? Forget the tough girl ...YIKES!!!! call me a WIMP! Who created this instrument? Why didn't they design it so the motor isn't intimidating? The drilling keeps going on and on and on and on... (I want to Yell) Just pull the @#@ tooth!!! At last I'm finished! how could I forget the novacain? The entire side of my face is not there - or is it-I can't feel my tongue - -I think I just bit the side of my jaw...I'll probably feel that later once this stuff fades away. Ok. finally finished. Fresh Start--New outlook on life--better food choices-RIGHT!--extra brushing-RIGHT!--Oh the promises we make but fail to keep.... The Doctor says as I'm leaving the office "After four more appointments you'll be back on track" Is he kidding???? Does anybody have any swedish fish or taffy???

Sniffle Sniffle ...Cold Season

What ya gonna do? The debate still hangs around the validity of the flu shot - should I or shouldn't I...Well you choose..but choose wisely. If you cough or sneeze please use the crease of your arm to prevent the spreading of germs..and may I recommend wiping down anything you may use thats accessible to the masses..."computers". Another helpful tip wash hands before eating..especially when eating out..don't take this lightly...oh by the way I'm not a germaphobe (this term is listed in the urban dictionary) I'm just cautious....stay healthy! peace

Counting Sheep

I wish I could count sheep.right now....Its late and I can't sleep...wah wah wah. Oh well so much for taking the day off to rest. On another note birthdays are nice!
New technologies this week - we experimented with podcast. Very nice! I tuned into to a very cool prerecorded session of an interview with Jazz Saxophonist Sonny Rollins on the eve of the 2008 election. His music is timeless. Podcast are very enjoyable - I may consider placing one online once I can decide on the appropriate content.

Information highway Watch Out!

Todays class was very informational - Ken did a great job of addressing some technological questions and concerns. I am looking forward to moving deeper into Web 2.0 and also experimenting with Web 3.0 - So much information and never enough time to absorb. I understand the importance of staying on top of all the social networking sites. The networking is endless - The most important thing that stuck out in today's class was the importance of selecting what information we want people to be privy too. Several classmates communicated their feelings about what age they felt children should have access to cell phones or internet access. Just to throw some food for thought in the conversation. I was surprised when my brother agreed to allow my neice to have a cell phone - his reasoning is similar to most parents in my community - either the child is from a single parent home and/or both parents dont get off work early enough to receive the child. So most latch key children let themselves into the house then notify their parents that they have arrived home successfully. As for the internet it has become a source of entertainment for most children - free games - homework assistance - and unfortunately imporper use (for some) - other childre who may be wheelchair bound or suffer from some form of disability the computer/ internet has become another opportuinty to communicate with their peers on a "even" level...just food for thought.... all comments are welcome..keep an open mind!

Second Life

O.K. I was really excited to try yet another web engine know as Second Life. The second life is a suggested site our Instructor asked us to get familiar with - Well let's just say after my initial experience with second life - I wish I had a third and fourth life!!! What a treat! Needless to say I am having my share of obstacles...My most recent issue is trying to make my Avatar reappear - what an adventure. I think in the long run once I master the skills of second life it will be a fun virtual experience that will probably occupy alot of my time. In the meantime I'm looking forward to finding myself or should I say my Avatar --- I'm still just a floating cloud of mist????

Day 1

First day of class - not sure what to expect - but one thing I am sure about is we will gain a new understanding about the many tools available on the web. Less than two hours and I have already established a gmail account, a blogger page, facebook account and twittter. Wow!

Some of my expectations for this class are the following:

Develope, maintain and fully understand the processes involved in maintaining a facebook account, Become a frequent blogger, Understand and use twitter to the fullest.

More importantly research every free opportunity to advertise information about the theatre where I work. Paul Robeson Theatre - Buffalo, New York.

The class is over and the information I've already gained from day 1 is unbelieveable!!!!!! watch out world..... I can't wait until the last day...
